Olympus
Mr & Ms Olympus 2001 Sherrie Dixon and Michael Allshouse
Over 200 Leatherfolk attended Pantheon of Leather XI at the Le Petit Theatre in New Orleans, LA the weekend of February 16-18 where 27 awards were presented on Friday night, new Mr. and Ms Olympus Leather titleholders were named and five workshops were held on Saturday and a fabulous Victory Brunch buffet closed out the weekend on Sunday afternoon. More events added to the terrific weekend.
The state of Georgia was smiling big after the Mr. and Ms Olympus Leather 2001 Contest concluded with Michael Allshouse and Sherree Dixon from Atlanta winning. Mr. Louisiana Olympus Leather Butch Arnold and Ms Louisiana Olympus Leather Julyahana did their state proud, too. It was no easy task for judges Ms Olympus Leather 2000 Joni, Mr. Olympus Leather 2000 Jazz Thomas, International Ms Leather 2000 Jo Blas, Leather activist Mary Elizabeth Boyd, International Drummerboy 1999 Woody Barnes, Thunder in the Mountains producer Rich Dockter, American Leatherwoman 2000 Paula Smith and Mr. Leather Ottawa - Hull 2000 Howard Hao. Judges' coordinator was Bare Images owner Amy Marie Meek who produces the International Ms Leather Contest and the tally master was Mr. Louisiana Leather 2000 Todd Cole.
Contestants went through a tough interview process on Saturday afternoon. They presented fantasies depicting at least one fetish and answered light and serious questions during the stage portion of the contest
Pantheon of Leather was again lucky to have International Ms Leather Kay Hallanger and San Francisco Leather Daddy VIII Don Thompson back as emcees. They were superb as usual. Kay was at her best while emceeing and judging the Mr. International Saliva 2001 Contest on Saturday night. A record nine contestants vied for the dishonor with the winner being Plant and runner-up Ed Sparan from Broward County, FL. Everything seemed fine with a plant winning a Leather contest for the first time, until Sparan appeared less than amused by losing to a plant. He demanded a recount which was partially agreed upon. Just like in a recent contest involving a recount, it never fully took place and Plant ended up winning because it was in possession of the "sash" the following day.
Foreskins Leather created the Mr. and Ms Olympus Leather sashes. The production team of Gary Chichester, Dean Ogren, RJ Chaffin, John Prather and Paul Sullenger from Chicago prepared magnificent sets and choreography along with the help of Bill Walker from the Le Petit Theatre.
The opening number was done with the Survivor television show theme which was hot. Sparan sang One Common Heartbeat as part of a Leather pride flag tribute to Tony DeBlase. Jazz and Joni gave short and sweet stepping down speeches following a titleholders travel fund auction. One basket valued at $3,400 with two night stays at four different New Orleans hotels went for $800.
The Lords of Leather, who had their Leather Ball coming up the weekend before Mardi Gras, managed the bar for the weekend. They had to be proud as own of their own, George Hester, one of their own known for strong community service, received one of the awards. George and his lover Danny were about to celebrate their fifth anniversary which made this time of year even more special for them.
